As I had some recollection of reading some mention of symbolic links I did a search and found you this:

I also found this at: http://www.lostshot.com/weblog/2003/09.php#ntfsjunctions

NTFS Directory Junctions

A useful Win2k/XP trick - NTFS Junctions are similar to symbolic links on Linux. They enable you to set up a folder that serves as a link to another directory located elsewhere in your file system. The easiest way to create them on XP is with a freeware utility http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/misc.shtml#junction from Sysinternals. Take a look at this SitePoint Tech Times article for more info.
