I always wondered if it was something due to the state it had stored being old and different in some way to what was there when it restored, but had minimal confidence that was it.

I spent a lot (!!) of time unlogging parts of disks to see if I could then save an uncorrupt log (so without exiting the program and testing the log in another instance), and sometimes it worked but I couldn't find a magic bullet.
