Interestingly, I just read this opinion today from a very prolific programmer
who knows what he is talking about:

He says this:

THE AUTHOR AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS:

Microsoft Windows and related development products such as the Microsoft Visual
Studio .NET suite is totally irrespectful of any programming standards. Much
more code written under Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 for Windows XP does
not compile under Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2010 for Windows 7. The
consequence is that the author no longer considers Windows and related
development tools as a platform for him to write or port code.
